Short answer
Florida does not set a price for supervision. If your employer provides supervision, ask whether there is a separate fee or a repayment condition. If you pay privately, multiply the hourly rate by the 100 hours the Board requires: at $100 an hour, that is $10,000.
The Florida Board requires 100 supervision hours in no fewer than 100 weeks for mental health counseling interns. It does not publish a statewide private rate. No dependable statewide range was available to verify, so the table below gives sample calculations only.
What would 100 supervision hours cost?
Multiply the rate in your agreement by the hours you pay for. These examples are not a survey of actual Florida prices.
| Example hourly rate | 100 hours |
|---|---|
| $50 | $5,000 |
| $100 | $10,000 |
| $150 | $15,000 |
Your bill may also include cancellation or paperwork fees. The LMHC cost guide covers Board and exam fees too.
Why does group supervision often cost less?
Several interns share one supervisor’s time in a group, so the fee per person may be lower. Ask for separate quotes for each format. Rule 64B4-2.002, F.A.C., defines individual supervision as one or two interns and group as three to six. Group sessions alternate with individual sessions and take place in person. At least half of supervision must be in person. The first meeting must be in person. Subsection (7) provides an exception, so read it before making a remote plan.
Can your employer pay for supervision?
Yes. Some employers include supervision with the job. Ask if meetings happen on paid time and what happens if you leave. Confirm that the Board has approved your supervisor before counting hours. The Board’s intern page says hours do not count before registration and supervisor approval.
What belongs in a written supervision contract?
Put the hourly rate, meeting length, format, payment date, and cancellation terms in writing. Include fees for extra consultation and final forms. Ask how the supervisor will keep logs and submit paperwork under Rule 64B4-2.0025, F.A.C.. Agree on what happens if either person ends the arrangement.
How can you lower the cost?
- Ask employers whether Board-approved supervision is included.
- Compare written quotes from several qualified supervisors.
- Ask if a permitted group session is cheaper for you.
- Agree on cancellation and paperwork costs before starting.
